Hi All

Just a quick email to reach out to new members or those who perhaps haven't been to the garden for a while.

We are coming up to a very busy period with an increased workload of watering over the coming summer months and getting the garden organised before our Christmas Market on 25 November.

If you would be able to commit to assisting with our watering roster or helping to prepare the garden for our market please let me know and I can add you to a roster and ensure that you are made very welcome by our members and shown how the garden works.

If you know of others who may be interested in being involved in our activities please spread the word we have an almost unlimited capacity to welcome new members.

Thank you

Jo Harris

Hi KCG Members & Friends,

Just a quick update on what is happening in the rest of the year.

KELMSCOTT SHOW
This year's Kelmscott Show on Friday 20th & Saturday 21st October will have a 'Garden For Life' theme. As such we have been in the loop regarding what is coming up and they have a fabulous line up of free workshops and stalls being held by gardening experts. The Garden Gurus will also be on site filming for one of their programmes and providing great advice. The Community Garden will have a promotional stall at the event where we will be showcasing some of our activities, giving away a few freebies and basically trying to raise awareness of the garden and attract new members hopefully. If anyone would like to contribute with providing suitable giveaways or help to man the stall on the day please let me know by email or by text or call to 0413 177 139. Please leave a message if I don't answer so I know to call you back. If you can't assist KCG then still come on down and enjoy the Show!

KCG CHRISTMAS OPEN DAY/MARKET
We will be having our now very well known Christmas Market on Saturday 25th November from 2pm - 6pm. We would love extra hands to help on the day outside of the usual committee so if you have some time please let me know as above. Just a hand setting up, packing away or donations for stalls would be great. It is our only real fundraiser for the year so it is important for us to put on a good show and it has a lovely atmosphere. This year we will again be privileged to a visit from Father Christmas and have a train ride for children amongst other fun and goodies. Entry is free.

AGM
Our AGM will be held before Christmas. We had set a date but a few members are unable to attend so we will keep you informed of the renewed date.

GRANT
The garden is looking amazing at the moment and we have received a Federal Government Community Grant to have shade cloth structures added to our raised garden beds so they should continue to look fabulous throughout the coming summer. Thank you to Anne Fraser for all her hard work writing the grant and managing the project!

CAFE BLINDS & CANCER COUNCIL FUNDRAISING AFTERNOON TEA
We are getting quotes for cafe blinds to make our verandah a more comfortable and usable space all year round. For those of you who attended our Cancer Council Fundraising Afternoon Tea (where we raised an amazing $1040) you will know what I mean - it rained cats and dogs but we were very stoic and we managed to eat, drink and laugh our way to have a great time and raise an incredible total of $1040! Thank you to everyone who attended.

RETICULATION
David from WA Reticulation Services will be extending our reticulation to our nursery and to our flamingo bed this week so that will ensure that our nursery production will be enhanced and reduce some of the watering load over summer. Dave provides a great service and is contactable on 0431 218 044.
That is about all the news for now and look forward to seeing you at the garden soon.
Jo

Hi Members and Friends

Just a little request and reminder regarding our upcoming Market on Saturday 12 November 3-7pm.

Any donations of plants or other goods for sale (other than baked goods) should be brought to the garden this week so they can be organised. Please come down during one or our regular open sessions Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Sunday 9-11. Baked goods can be brought in on the day anytime from 12 noon.

Secondly please use these links to a pdf and a jpg that are our advertising flyers. If you could please circulate to your contacts and through social media that would be very helpful. Please also consider printing a copy and displaying at your work, local cafe, gym, or other gathering place you may visit to help spread the word.

We are all working hard to make this a lovely local market and hope to see you there.

Kind regards

Jo

Hi Members and Friends of Kelmscott Community Garden

Next Saturday at 10am, 29th October, we are getting together to finalise plans for the Open Day / Twilight Market which is going to be held at the garden on the afternoon/evening of Saturday 12th November.

It would be great to have some volunteers to help prepare the garden during the week leading up to the event. At the meeting next Saturday (28th) we'll be discussing what needs to be done, so everyone is encouraged warmly to come along and get involved.

We are also calling on your skills and generosity in donating items for sale to our produce stall and our crafts stall. Home baking, home-made jam and marmalade, chutneys, sweets etc. Christmas themed produce and crafts are particularly welcome.

So please come along, get involved, have fun and help build our Kemscott community. Hope to see you next Saturday.

Kind regards

Hi All

What amazing gardening weather we are having. We have overflowing water tanks and the plants are loving the wet ground.

Just a quick note to keep you up to date with what's happening at the garden.

Busy Bee on Saturday 27th August from 10 - 12.
Our Busy Bee is a great opportunity to come down and meet other members and friends and see how lovely the garden is currently looking.
Lend a hand to do some general tidying up, weeding, raking etc and finish off with a cuppa and a bite to eat so if you are able to bring a small plate of food to share that would be lovely.

Keep the Date - Open Day 12th November 3-7pm
Put this date in your diary for the next of our very popular Open Days. This will be themed as a PreChristmas Market so we are hoping to have lots of activities and goodies to celebrate the festive season. A great opportunity to get together with the local community and family and friends and grab a drink and some food and pick up a few Christmas pressies. If you would like to donate to the stalls or help on the day please let us know.

Current Projects
We really have done a lot of work recently and have identified the next projects on the list, including finishing off the lining of our main shed, laying the last two paths required and providing shade cloth for our community garden beds during the summer. We will be visiting Byford Glades Community Garden this Saturday to look at their successful shadecloth system to see if it will be suitable for us. This will help to protect our summer vegies and save water.

Thank you for your interest in the garden. We are so pleased with how this beautiful community space is helping to grow our community. The more people who come down and assist the more we can grow and the more activities we can provide for everyone. Please send our details to anyone else you may think is interested or we would love to see you again if it's been a little while since your last visit.

Kind regards
Jo

11 May 2022

Hi All

I hope you are all enjoying the autumn weather (we won't mention the smoke) so much nicer to garden in this milder weather and it goes without saying that we are really looking forward to the forecast rain.

It's been a little while since my last letter so here's a quick update on our activities.

Busy Bee - Garden Improvements
A week long busy bee that attracted about 12 volunteers resulted in finishing of some paths, improving the inside of the main shed and completing the installation of our second storage shed. It has made a huge difference to the garden and a heartfelt thanks to those who assisted.

Kids Easter Workshop
The above workshop was a fantastic event that saw about 20 children and their parents come along to paint a garden chicken and Easter egg, have an easter egg hunt and enjoy a lovely Easter themed morning tea. Feedback was fabulous and we will certainly be looking to host more fun activities in the future so keep an eye out on our social media for our upcoming events.

Bedfordale Bush Markets
Our first stall at the markets in April (at the Kelmscott Hall) raised $350 mostly from the sale of our plants. Again a huge effort to get things ready and set up on the day so thank you to the six or so members who helped.

We will be attending again on 28 May. Let us know if you would like to be involved in preparing plants for sale or in assisting on the day. Help would be greatly appreciated as would any plants you may have that would be suitable for sale or propagation for future market stalls.

Planting
Our members, led by our amazing seed germinating wiz Beth have been very busy planting out the community beds with all sorts of winter crops including bok choy and other leafy greens, peas and lots of yummy root veggies. Thanks to the efforts of our propagators and hard working compost makers the garden is looking great and brimming with winter promise. Some of our perennial garden beds have also been given a makeover thanks to the planning and hard work of Anne and Carol.

If you haven't been down for a while please we would love to welcome you down to the garden during our general opening hours. If you can't make it on a regular basis please pop in when you have time, even if it is just to say hi. It is great to have a chat and we love to show you around, I think you will be impressed by the growth of the garden.

Of course we always welcome new members who always bring new skills and perspectives so please pass our details onto anyone who you think may be interested.

Thanks for your interest and support and look forward to seeing you soon.
Kind regards
Jo

Hi All

I hope you are all enjoying this cooler weather after our brutal summer.

The community garden is doing extremely well considering the conditions and this is thanks to a supreme effort by our core group of volunteers who have worked so diligently to water and maintain the garden for you all to enjoy.

Given all the watering and raking that has been necessary we have been finding it difficult to finish a few outstanding projects, including, painting our new shed and installing shelving, organising our main shed to make it more workable and comfortable and finishing the landscaping around our new toilet and path.

Some of our members have very kindly volunteered to 'a full week' Monday to Friday 9-4 at the garden next week. We will be tackling all these jobs mentioned above as well as some general watering, nursery jobs and tidying up of the garden.

We would be very grateful if anyone can come down during this time to give us a hand and help us to achieve our aims of getting these main jobs out of the way so we can start organising more activities and making time for more social events as well.

No need to lock in any commitment, just come on down and we will find you something to do that is suited to your preferences and abilities. There will be plenty of tea and coffee and cake to share with everyone.

Hope to see you next week if just for an hour or two.

Thanks for your interest in the garden.

Kind regards

Jo
